QURAN - REVIEWS

Review of translations of Holy Quran

The Quran can not be translated in its true sense since it is the word of the Divine. However there are two great English translations of Holy Quran which do justice with the beautiful and poetic Arabic language and its meanings. These translations are open minded, philosophical and according to the historical context. Both scholars strived to exclude the cultural influence occurring throughout the years after the 7th century on the translations and interpretations. Their commentaries explain the historical contexts of the verses which were revealed by the Divine in response to the events, inhumane practices, superstitious beliefs and questions asked during Quranic time period (610 - 633 AD) in the two cities of Makkah and Medina. The commentaries have also used references from old & new Testament and other historical texts for better understanding.
